Transcriptional Drivers of Endocrine Disorders Special Collection

Transcriptional control is a corner stone in the orchestrated functioning of the endocrine system to maintain normal physiology. The endocrine network must reckon with the diversity, context-dependence, and developmental plasticity of key transcriptional regulators to ensure temporal synchrony in the production, secretion, and availability of hormones and cognate receptors integral to organ homeostasis. Crosstalk between transcriptional regulators and their many ‘partners’, which are subject to complicated feed-forward and feedback loops, provides additional complexity to endocrine signalling. Given that defects in any of these levels lead to various disease pathologies, a robust foundational understanding of mechanisms underlying transcriptional factor actions has important consequences for addressing disease risk and in advancing therapy and clinical management. 
 
Led by Senior Editor Professor Gwen Lomberk, and Deputy Editor Rosalia C.M. Simmen, this timely special collection will cover topics including:

  • Transcription factors impacting metabolic, cardiovascular, and reproductive health and cancers
  • Classical and novel partners of transcription factors in normal and disease contexts
  • Epigenetic modifications affecting transcriptional regulation in endocrine disorders, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs
  • New technologies and cutting-edge omics, includes single-cell approaches and integrative multi-omics studies, for the study of transcription factor mechanics in endocrine disorders
  • Dynamic models for studying inherited transcription factor deficiencies in endocrine disorders  
  • Effect of aging, the circadian system, and other environmental factors (e.g., endocrine disruptors, stress, nutrition) on transcriptional regulation of endocrine functions
  • Genetic variants in transcription factors associated with endocrine disorders  
  • Transcriptional programming and endocrine resistance    

This Special Collection highlights the dynamic landscape and the highly interactive network of key transcriptional factors underlying endocrine disorders.
