Professor Faisal Ahmed was appointed as a consultant in paediatric endocrinology at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow in 2000 and after holding the Leonard Gow Lectureship in Child Health for a few years, he was appointed to the Samson Gemmell Chair of Child Health at the University of Glasgow in 2012. Since 2019, he has also held an appointment at the University of Leiden as Professor of Endocrine Registries. In Glasgow, he founded the Developmental Endocrinology Research Group and the Office for Rare Conditions. His research has focussed particularly on improving the health of people with rare endocrine conditions, and especially those with conditions affecting sex development and maturation or skeletal development. For his contributions to the field of paediatric endocrinology, he was awarded the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology Research Award in 2021.

Dr Rosalia (Rosie) Simmen is Professor Emeritus of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, USA. Professor Simmen’s research interests centre around mechanistic aspects of women’s health with emphasis on metabolic linkages in steroid hormone-dependent breast and gynecological cancers and reproductive disorders including endometriosis and infertility. She has served on numerous editorial boards for reproduction and endocrine-related journals over the last 30 years, most recently as Senior Editor of Journal of Endocrinology and Journal of Molecular Endocrinology. She is a regular reviewer for many national and international research funding agencies, has served in leadership roles in various professional societies, and has trained more than 120 undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. She has published ~200 peer-reviewed articles, editorials, and book chapters in the areas of reproduction and cancer biology.

Dr Filippo Ceccato is a Senior Assistant Professor in Endocrinology at the Department of Medicine DIMED, University of Padova, and a consultant in Clinical Endocrinology at the Endocrine Unit (expertise in pituitary and adrenal diseases), University-Hospital of Padova. His research activity is focused on the diagnosis of pituitary and adrenal neoplasm (Cushing’s syndrome, adrenal carcinoma, incidentaloma, acromegaly, adrenal insufficiency), on clinical application of mass spectrometry for cortisol-related diseases, on the management of disease-related complications and identification of genetic alterations in endocrine tumors. He obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in Endocrinology (MED/13, 06/D2), and in 2019 the Award for Best Researcher in Endocrinology under 35 from the Italian Society of Endocrinology.

Dr Krajewska is board-certified in endocrinology and internal diseases. She has been deeply involved in the treatment of thyroid carcinoma for more than 20 years. The subject of her habilitation thesis concerned kinase tyrosine inhibitor therapy for advanced thyroid carcinoma, especially treatment-related side effects. Dr Krajewska’s research interest focuses on the management of advanced differentiated and medullary thyroid cancer, including the treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, other endocrine malignancies, and molecular background of thyroid carcinomas, particularly radioiodine-refractory differentiated thyroid cancer and medullary thyroid cancer.

Professor Amit V Pandey has a M.Sc. and PhD in Biochemistry working on cytochrome P450 and heme metabolism. Following postdoctoral research at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) in USA, working on CYP17A1 and androgen regulation, he began his career at the University of Bern in 2005, obtaining his habilitation in endocrinology in 2010. He is currently the head of steroid biochemistry and growth hormone research laboratories at the University Children’s Hospital Bern and a Professor at University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland. His research focuses on androgen regulation in humans, with focus on prostate cancer and polycystic ovary syndrome, and pharmacogenomics of steroid and drug metabolizing cytochrome P450 enzymes.

Professor Massimo Terzolo is director of the Division of Internal Medicine at San Luigi Hospital, and Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Turin. Professor Terzolo is a clinical and translational researcher specialized on adrenal diseases with major expertise in management of patients with adrenal tumours. Recent work from his group has provided significant advances in the development of new therapeutic strategies for adrenal carcinoma and in the definition and management of subclinical Cushing syndrome.

Dr Andrea Palermo is a clinical researcher in endocrinology and diabetes at University Campus Bio-Medico, Rome, Italy. He graduated in 2006 from University Campus Bio-Medico where he earned his MD. Afterwards, he attended a residency program in Endocrinology and Metabolism at University Campus Bio-Medico, Rome, Italy. During his specialization, he combined his clinical training as a diabetologist with the study of novel non-injectable insulin formulations such as the buccal spray insulin. Successively, he began his PhD course in the field of bone metabolism at the same institution. In particular, he focused his research interests on the interplay between bone and glucose metabolism and the study of calcium and bone metabolism, investigating new diagnostics and therapeutic aspects of clinical and subclinical forms of parathyroid glands diseases. During his PhD program, he also attended The Academic Unit of Bone Metabolism (Sheffield, UK) where he successfully studied the normocalcemic Hypoparathyroidism and its potential genetic impairment. He has won awards for his research at national and international meetings. In particular, he received the young investigator award from the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research and Endocrine society and ECTS lain T Boyle award 2020 for the study of calcium disorders. His research interests also include osteoporosis, diabetes and thyroid cancer. He has published over 100 research articles including original article, invited reviews and book chapters in the field of osteoporosis, bone and mineral metabolism and thyroid nodules/cancer.

Associate Professor Liesbeth (E M) Winter is internist-endocrinologist and clinician-scientist at Leiden University Medical Center, Leiden, the Netherlands. She is specialized in (rare) metabolic bone diseases, (complex) osteoporosis and calcium/phosphate disturbances. After her PhD in Embryology (cum laude) she now performs translational and clinical research within the bone field, focusing on bone rhythmicity, glucocorticoid signaling, diagnostics of bone diseases and chronic nonbacterial osteomyelitis. She has received various grants and awards for her research. She is a board member of the Dutch Society of Endocrinology, and involved in various international committees (ECTS, IFMRS, ASBMR).

Jun graduated from Monash University with a MBBS (Hon) in 2001 and completed her PhD on tissue-selective coregulators of the mineralocorticoid receptor in 2013. She has continued basic and clinical research in the fields of mineralocorticoid receptor biology and primary aldosteronism. She collaborates nationally and internationally to improve the detection and understanding of primary aldosteronism so as to achieve improved patient outcomes.

Dr Paul Foster is currently Associate Professor of Endocrine Cancer at the University of Birmingham. He is also the Director of Education for the Institute of Metabolism and Systems Research (IMSR). Dr Foster’s research interests focus on identifying and then exploiting new therapeutic targets within steroid metabolism to treat endocrine-related cancers. He has a major interest in various enzymes involved in oestrogen metabolism, in particular steroid sulfatase and the 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases. Dr Foster has been involved in numerous drug development projects over the past 20 years and has significant experience in target identification and validation.

Dr. Lomberk is Professor with Tenure and the Joel and Arlene Lee Endowed Chair in Pancreatic Research in the Department of Surgery with a joint appointment in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). She also serves as the Chief of the Division of Research and Director of Basic Science Research for the Department of Surgery. Her research is centered on understanding the epigenomic mechanisms involved in pancreatic diseases, including pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs). Her investigations delve into the role of epigenomic regulators downstream of oncogenes like KRAS, as well as their involvement in chronic inflammatory conditions such as pancreatitis and diabetes. During her career, she has examined the intricate relationship between diabetes and pancreatic cancer. Her research centered on sequence-specific transcription factors known as KLFs, examining their role at the intersection of metabolism and cancer, as well as their interactions with epigenomic regulators.

Professor Constantine A Stratakis is an internationally known medical geneticist, endocrinologist, translational investigator and executive leader with a unique combination of skills and experience in science, healthcare, clinical trials, molecular research and genetics, policy, government regulations, and patient advocacy. He is an elected member of American Pediatric Society (APS), the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Association of American Physicians (AAP). Dr Stratakis most recently was instrumental in the launching of the new NICHD Strategic Plan (2020–2024) that emphasizes precision medicine, and the use of large data in predictive healthcare. As an investigator, he has worked on the genetics of solid tumors and has identified a number of predisposing genetic defects, including a disease that bears his name (Carney-Stratakis syndrome). He was named honorary member of the Hellenic Society of Cardiology (2017) and the Hellenic Endocrine Society (2019) for his work on the genetics of hypertension and endocrine diseases, respectively.

Dr Antonio Desmond McCarthy is Coordinator of Biochemistry graduate career, Full Professor of Clinical Chemistry and co-Director of LIOMM (Mineral Metabolism and Osteopathy Research Laboratory) in the National University of La Plata. He is also Director of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Health "Horacio Cestino" General Hospital. Professor McCarthy’s research interests have centred around screening strategies for gestational Diabetes; pinpointing the accumulation of AGEs in bone as a relevant mechanism for diabetic osteopathy; and identifying treatment strategies for bone repair, leading to the discovery of osteogenic effects of metformin. He is currently studying the reciprocal regulation between osteopenia and vascular calcifications, and its modulation by metformin.

Valdis Pirags is Professor of Endocrinology and the Chair of Internal Medicine at the University of Latvia, and director of the Clinic of Internal Medicine at the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. Professor Pirags is credited with discovering of the PKC-dependent cellular mechanisms of platelet activation by glucose and revealing that probability of side effects of metformin are genetically predisposed. These research achievements resulted in establishing of a unique Laboratory of Personalised Medicine at his department. His current interests are focused on revealing of self-regulated psychoneuroendocrine mechanisms counteracting to pathogenesis and exacerbation of chronic diseases.

He has served on many leadership positions such as steering committee member for Type 1 Diabetes Exchange Clinic Registry (2016–2017), Communication director for diabetes technology interest group at the American Diabetes Association (2019–2020), and American College of Endocrinology Self-Assessment Program writing committee member (2020–2021). He is a recipient of prestigious AACE Rising Start in Endocrinology award (2021). He is well published with over 100 research publications including original article, invited reviews, editorials, and book chapters.

Dr Søndergaard is an endocrinologist at Steno Diabetes Centre Aarhus and Associate Professor at Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University. His research interest is centred around human studies of integrated physiology and substrate metabolism in diabetes. He has published paper on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism and the consequences of diabetes, insulin resistance and inflammation in adipose tissue. He is currently performing studies on ketone body and lactate metabolism and the metabolic consequences of increasing ketogenesis by pharmacological treatment and lifestyle interventions using stable isotope and PET tracer techniques. He also has an interest in adrenal disease. He has been awarded the Jens Sandahl Christiansen Award from the European Society of Endocrinology.

Kathryn Tan is Sir David Todd Professor in Medicine and Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Hong Kong. Her main research interests include lipid disorders and lipoprotein metabolism, and the role of dyslipidaemia and post-translational modification derived products in the pathogenesis of vascular disease and diabetic complications. She is currently serving on the Executive Board of the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes. She has recently published in Diabetes Care and in Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology on the pathological role of carbamylated lipoproteins in diabetes.

Dr Baker's research programme investigates how body size and growth during childhood in combination with other exposures across the lifecourse relate to disease. Dr Baker’s work particularly focuses on short and long-term effects of overweight and obesity in children. She and her group have shown that a higher body mass index in childhood increases the risk during adult life of numerous non-communicable diseases including several types of cancer, cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Alexander Bartelt is the Professor of Cardiovascular Metabolism at the Institute for Cardiovascular Prevention, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. He received his Diploma in Biochemistry in 2007 and his PhD in 2010 from University of Hamburg, Germany with honours. After his postdoctoral training at Harvard University, USA he started as a principal investigator in Munich in 2018. The Bartelt lab is dedicated to understanding the basic principles of metabolic adaptation as well as the molecular pathology of cardiometabolic diseases. One primary scientific focus of the lab is the interplay of proteostasis, inflammation and cellular stress resistance and this research is currently supported by the European Research Council ERC, the German Center for Cardiovascular Research DZHK, the German Research Foundation DFG. Over the years, Dr Bartelt’s contributions have been recognised by national and international awards, fellowships and honours.

Li Chan is currently Professor of Molecular Endocrinology and Metabolism at Queen Mary University of London. She is also an honorary Paediatric Endocrinologist at Barts Health. Dr Chan’s research interests are centred around paediatric adrenal and metabolic disorders. She was recipient of a number of prestigious fellowships including an MRC Clinical Training Fellowship followed by an Academy of Medical Sciences/MRC Tenure-Track Clinician Scientist Fellowship. She was recently awarded the Starling Medal by the Society for Endocrinology and EJE award from the European Society of Endocrinology for the advancement of knowledge in the field of endocrinology.

Po-Shiuan Hsieh, MD, PhD

Professor Po-Shiuan Hsieh is currently Director of the Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, National Defense Medical Center (NDMC), Taipei, Taiwan. Professor Hsieh’s research interests have focused on the pathological links between obesity and metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes and potential therapeutic strategies. Additionally, his recent research interests have centred around the regulatory mechanism underlying weight control and energy metabolism. He has published a series of SCI articles regarding the role of COX-2-mediated signaling in obesity-associated adipose tissue inflammation and insulin resistance as well as the involvement of hepatic inflammation into the development of type 2 diabetes.

Professor Peter Kühnen was appointed as the director of the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology at Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin in 2022. She was then appointed to her current position as senior staff specialist in the Department of Endocrinology at St Vincent’s Hospital in 2011, and also heads The Hormones and Cancer Group at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Her primary research interests are in exploring the biology and new treatment options for aggressive pituitary tumours. She also has research interests in pituitary tumour genetics. She is the current President of the Endocrine Society of Australia.

Professor Henrik Oster serves as the Lichtenberg Endowed Chair of Neurobiology and director of the Institute of Neurobiology at the University of Lübeck. After receiving his PhD in biochemistry in Fribourg (CH) and postdoctoral training in Hannover (DE) and Oxford (UK) he started his work in chronophysiology in Göttingen (DE) and, since 2011, in Lübeck (DE). His special interests are in the interaction of endocrine and circadian systems in the regulation of energy metabolism, behavioural functions, and sleep.

Mehul Dattani is Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology based at the University College London (UCL) Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, and was Specialty Lead in Endocrinology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH) between 2006 and 2023. He has an active clinical practice in paediatric and adolescent Endocrinology at GOSH and University College London Hospitals (UCLH). He completed a 3-year term as Chair of the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, followed by a 7-year term as Chair of the Programme Organizing Committee and member of the Council of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE). He is the Convenor/Host of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology for 2024, and hosted the ESPE2021 Online Annual meeting. He has also served as co-Chair of the Pituitary Main Thematic Group of the ENDO-ERN initiative until December 2020.


Professor Dattani has established a laboratory group investigating the molecular basis of hypothalamo–pituitary disease at UCL. He has identified novel genes implicated in hypothalamo-pituitary development in patients with congenital hypopituitarism, and has worked on understanding the molecular basis of a paediatric brain tumour called adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma. He has more than 250 publications including original articles and scholarly reviews in a number of high impact journals, as well as numerous book chapters. He sits on numerous advisory boards and editorial boards of journals. He has previously received the ESPE Henning Andersen awards (on two occasions), RCPCH Donald Paterson Award, the Kalaitzoglou Prize from The Hellenic Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Endocrinology, the 2022 Visionary award from the Human Growth Foundation, and the 2022 ESPE Research Award for his scientific work. He has co-authored 3 textbooks to date, including the 7th Edition of Brook’s Clinical Paediatric Endocrinology. He has recently been awarded the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in the UK

Professor Mastorakos’ research interests include endocrinology of reproduction, pregnancy and menopause, obesity, neuroendocrine mechanisms in chronic/acute stress and immune/inflammatory reaction, endocrinology of exercise, hypothalamic amenorrhea. He served as president of the Hellenic Endocrine Society and ex-officio member of the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) ExCo. Dr. Walker is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Member of the Magee Womens Research Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Walker’s research is focused on the endocrine control of male spermatogenesis and fertility. He has been characterizing gene expression and intracellular signaling pathways in the mammalian testis for over 25 years. Dr. Walker determined that testosterone can act via two mechanisms in Sertoli cells to support spermatogenesis. In the classical pathway, T interacts with the androgen receptor (AR) to directly regulate gene expression. In the non-classical pathway, T acts via the AR to activate numerous kinases, their target proteins and downstream gene expression in Sertoli cells. Dr. Walker’s current interests include the use of proteomic and transcriptomic approaches to identify testosterone-mediated secreted proteins from Sertoli cells that are required for germ cells to complete meiosis. He is also studying estrogen and androgen regulation of benign prostate hyperplasia in aging mice and men.

Sara Ahmadi is currently an Endocrine faculty at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Harvard Medical School. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University, a member of the Duke Endocrine Neoplasia team, and the Duke Cancer Institute. Dr Ahmadi’s research interests have centred around patient-centred outcomes through the study of patient-reported outcome, radiologic and sonographic characteristics of thyroid nodules which can be used as predictors of thyroid cancer and clinical, pathological and molecular factors that may predict outcome in patients with thyroid cancer.

Professor Alicja Hubalewska-Dydejczyk is Chair of the Department of Endocrinology, Jagiellonian University, Medical College in Kraków, Poland. She is a specialist in internal medicine, endocrinology and nuclear medicine and her major research interest is thyreology, with special concerns in the management of thyroid dysfunction in pregnancy and in optimization of the iodine prophylaxis in Europe. Since 1999 she has worked on optimization of diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm of neuroendocrine tumour patients including radioisotope imaging method and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy. Suprarenal glands and pituitary disorders are an additional area of interest.

Dr Kim's research focuses on markers of prognostic significance and on novel therapeutic target in thyroid cancer, specifically specific changes in cancer cell metabolism. He is part of a multi-disciplinary team of thyroid cancer specialists in Asan Medical Center. He served as Chief of Board of Directors of the Korean Thyroid Association from 2015 to 2017, organized the 12th Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association Congress (AOTA) in 2017 and has served as secretary general of AOTA since 2015. He received the Nagataki-Fujifilm prize of AOTA in 2019.

Dr Alexander Teumer is a researcher and is leading a group focusing on genetic epidemiology at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the University Medicine Greifswald. Having a background in mathematics and computer science, he participated in and led various projects on determining the genetic background of complex traits and diseases. Currently, his main research focus is on thyroid and kidney function. He is the co-leader of the ThyroidOmics consortium studying the determinants and effects of thyroid diseases and function.
