About Endocrine Connections

 

Endocrine Connections is a peer-reviewed journal publishing basic, translational and clinical research papers and reviews in all areas of endocrinology. Endocrine Connections accepts submissions of research which is scientifically rigorous, but without imposing requirements for novelty or impact.

Published since 2012, Endocrine Connections is co-owned by the Society for Endocrinology (SfE) and the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE), and is published by Bioscientifica. Endocrine Connections is a sister title to other journals published by the societies – the European Journal of Endocrinology, Endocrine-Related Cancer, Journal of Endocrinology and Journal of Molecular Endocrinology. Endocrine Connections received a 2021 Journal Impact Factor of 3.221.

Endocrine Connections is a fully gold open-access journal meaning that all published articles are made immediately and freely accessible to all under a creative commons licence. The publication of each article is funded by the payment of an Article Publication Charge (APC).

The strategic aim for Endocrine Connections is to increase the number of articles published each year, growing to become a key publication to further research and clinical practice in endocrinology, and stimulate cross-discipline collaboration. Growth in published articles is also important to generate a sustainable income for the owning societies to continue their charitable activities.

 

Role and Responsibilities

 

The role of the Editor-in-Chief is to drive the development of the journal in line with its strategic aims, and to oversee a fair and rigorous peer-review process.

The Editor-in-Chief is supported in this work by the journal’s Editorial Board and also works closely with the journal team at Bioscientifica

 

Achieving the journal’s strategic aims

 

The Editor-in-Chief will lead the Editorial Board to:

  • Develop a programme of activities to proactively increase the number of articles published in Endocrine Connections. This will include the creation of a pipeline of thematic collections of research articles on key topics of interest to the community.
  • Identify topics and global regions of emerging importance and developing activities to commission and solicit submissions on these subjects and from these regions.
  • Act as ambassadors to represent Endocrine Connections through networks and whilst attending international conferences.
  • Provide advice to the Publisher regarding marketing activity to promote the journal.
  • Periodically report back to the owning societies on the progress of the journal, including participating in the societies’ publishing committee meetings where appropriate.

 

Fair and rigorous peer-review process

 

The Editor-in-Chief will:

  • Screen new submissions for suitability prior to assigning submissions to appropriate Senior Editors who will manage the external peer review.
  • Oversee the peer review process, ensuring that this is fair and unbiased and that consistent standards of acceptance and rejection are maintained.
  • Provide support to members of the Endocrine Connections Editorial Board and journal team in complex cases or where ethical questions arise.

 

Editorial Board leadership

 

The Editor-in-Chief will:

  • Manage the membership of the Endocrine Connections Editorial Board, ensuring that there is sufficient expertise to manage the submissions to the journal and that the Editorial Board is representative of the journal’s diverse community of authors and readers
  • Set and chair a programme of meetings of the Editorial Board to maintain the engagement of the board members and drive the development of the journal in line with its strategic aims

 

Term

 

The initial term for the Editor-in-Chief of Endocrine Connections is four years. The term will officially start in January 2024; however a period of overlap with the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Professor Adrian Clark, is desired if possible.

On completion of the initial four-year term, the appointment may be renewed for an additional period by agreement of all parties.

The Editor-in-Chief receives an honorarium, paid annually, to support their activities.

 

Applications

 

Applicants should submit the following materials:

  • A CV highlighting relevant editorial experience and publication history.
  • A written statement outlining ideas to develop Endocrine Connections in order to achieve the strategic aim of increasing the number of articles published whilst maintaining or enhancing the reputation of the journal (maximum 750 words).

Applicants do not need to be a member of either the Society for Endocrinology or the European Society of Endocrinology in order to apply.

Applications are due by 30 April 2023, and should be emailed to the Endocrine Connections journal team (ec@bioscientifica.com). Candidates will be shortlisted and interviews will be held online in May to June 2023.
